Today we will discuss the Medical Tests for UK Student Visa. Every year a huge number of students move to the UK for higher education. There are a few procedures before visa processing. Medical tests are one of them. These tests are requirements to apply and get the acceptance for the student visa.

Tuberculosis (TB)

The first and most important medical test you need to take for the UK visa is Tuberculosis (TB) test especially if you are coming from the listed countries. Please check the list on the UK’s immigration website to find out if you need to take the test.

You will need to take a chest X-ray. However, you need to take a sputum sample if the result is not clear. If you are shown negative on the test, you will get a certificate with 6 months duration.

Who does not need the test?

  • A UK resident returning to the UK who has not been outside for more than 2 years.

  • Lived in a country for a minimum of 6 months where a TB test is not mandatory by the UK and have been outside of that country for not more than 6 months.

  • Diplomat accredited to the UK

Children

Clinicians from approved clinics will decide if any child will need a chest X-ray or not. Also, the clinicians will provide the decision if the child has TB or not. Then, you will get the certificate.

Pregnant Women

  • X-rays can be harmful to pregnant women. They can choose to use an extra shield for protection during the 2nd and 3rd trimesters.

  • Or they can do a sputum test. However, it can cost extra and may need to wait for 8 weeks.

  • Or they can wait until their delivery.

Biometric Test

Another test is a biometric test. This test has photographs and fingerprints. This test is necessary too. You can go to your nearest visa application center to enroll in your biometric information. It does not cost an extra fee and the process is quite easy and simple.

Fingerprints

You will scan your fingerprint with a digital finger scanner. It does not need any liquids or chemical products and follows every UK and international safety protocol. Your fingers need to be without any cuts, damage, and decoration like henna.

Facial Photograph

During this process, your face should be uncovered, and no glasses or anything is allowed to cover the face. You can wear a head scarf for religious or medical reasons.

Medical tests seem scary but it is just some general procedure. Follow the rules and wait for 2-3 weeks for the result. Hope our detailed discussion on Medical Tests for UK Student Visa will guide you.
