Today we will discuss the Requirements to study in Canada. Canada has become one of the most chosen destinations for higher education and permanent residency programs. It has some of the world's best universities, student-friendly facilities, a multicultural environment, and inexpensive tuition fees.
Study Permit
The study permit is issued by the 'Designated Learning Institution'. Your visa will be issued after getting the study permit. Students from particular countries can get the permit quicker through the Student Direct Stream.
You may need to take prerequisite courses in English or French if you have conditional acceptance. In this situation, your study permit's duration will be with those courses and an additional year. You need to apply for another study permit after completing the courses and admitting to the main program.
The fees are $150 and processing time varies from country to country.
Eligibility
Enrolled at a Designated Learning Institute
Funds for tuition fees, living expenses, and if any family members are coming with you.
Return transportation expenses for yourself and any family members who come with you.
No criminal record and a police certificate if needed.
Medical exam if needed.
You need to prove to an officer that you will not stay in Canada after your study permit expires
Documents
For Study Permit:
Proof of acceptance from the institute you enrolled in.
You don't need a letter of acceptance if you are a family member of someone with a study or work permit. And the permit is required to be approved in writing before you come.
Proof of financial support
Guaranteed Investment Certificate from a functional Canadian financial institution
If you have transferred money to Canada then, a Canadian bank account in your name
A student or education bank loan
Documents of paid tuition and housing fees
A bank draft to exchange for Canadian dollars
Bank statements for the past 4 months
Proof of scholarship or Canadian-funded educational program documents or funding paid from within Canada.
Proof of identity, a copy of the information page of your passport, and the original passport after approval.
Québec Acceptance Certificate (CAQ)
If you are going to study in Quebec for less than 6 months, you will not need CAQ.
And if you got the approval from the application for a CAQ got approved by the ministère de l’Immigration, de la Francisation et de l’Intégration (MIFI), you can apply with this approval.
Letter of Explanation
Custodian declaration for minors.
Two recent passport-size photos. You need to write the name and date of birth on the back of each photo.
Transcripts and certificates of previous degrees
Language proficiency tests score
IELTS 6.5 scores with 6.0 in every band
TOEFL 80-100 scores
CAEL 60 scores
PTE 65 scores with a minimum of 50 in each part
Statement of Purpose
Minimum Funds
This is for one year outside of Quebec and it doesn't include tuition fees.
living costs: $10,000 (for the student)
living costs: $4,000 (for the first family member)
living costs: $3,000 (for every additional family member)
Total: $17,000
Inside Quebec- Less than 18 years of age funds need to be 6,569 CAD per year. And 18+ age 13,134 CAD per year.
Study Without IELTS
You can apply without IELTS but you need to take other English language proficiency tests or apply to universities that don't require an IELTS test. If your previous education was in English background or you are from any English-speaking country, you may apply without an IELTS score.
