What Is IELTS Computer-Delivered with Writing on Paper?

It's the newest official IELTS delivery format — and FutureEd is one of the first test centers in Bangladesh to offer it.

Here's how test day works:

Listening & Reading — Completed digitally on a computer, with faster navigation and instant transitions between sections.

Writing — Your Task 1 and Task 2 questions appear on screen, but you write your answers by hand on the official IELTS paper, using a pen.

Speaking — Unchanged. A face-to-face/Online interview with a certified examiner, exactly as before.

You get the speed of computer delivery where it helps most, and the comfort of handwriting where it matters most.

Why This Format Exists

IELTS has moved to computer-delivered testing globally. But for millions of candidates — especially those who've spent their entire academic life writing HSC and SSC exams by hand — typing a high-stakes essay under time pressure isn't a small adjustment. It changes how you think, how you pace yourself, and how confident you feel walking into the exam.

The IELTS partners recognised this and introduced Writing on Paper as an official option in select markets. FutureEd is bringing it to Bangladesh first — because we believe the right format is the one that lets you perform at your actual level, not the one that forces you to adapt under pressure.

What Doesn't Change

Choosing Writing on Paper is not a trade-off. Here's what you keep:

Same fast results — you still get your scores within the standard [X]-day turnaround of computer-delivered IELTS.

One Skill Retake included — if you fall short in just one section, you can retake that section alone. (Your retake must stay in the same format — Writing on Paper to Writing on Paper.)

Identical global recognition — the test construct, scoring, and validity are exactly the same as any other IELTS delivery mode. Universities, immigration authorities, and employers see no difference.

Full access arrangements honored — including large print, and existing accommodations for candidates who need them.

Your past paper-based results stay valid — if you already hold a fully paper-based IELTS score, it remains valid for its full two-year window regardless of this launch.

Important to Know

Writing on Paper is available for IELTS Academic and IELTS General Training. If your test is for a visa-specific (SELT-equivalent) purpose, please confirm with our counsellors which delivery mode applies to your situation before booking.
